CHINA AND AFRICA

OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES.
15/02/2013

Economic relations between China and Africa, one part of more general Africa–China relations, began centuries ago and continues through the present day. This includes the ongoing move by the People's Republic of China to secure highly needed natural resources through Chinese-African trade and diplomatic relations.

The quest for key resources in Africa targets areas rich in oil, minerals, timber, and cotton, such as Sudan, Angola, Nigeria, and South Africa

Many African countries are viewed as fast-growing markets and profitable outlets for the immediate export of cheap manufactured goods, and the future export of high-end products and services.

I can say most of Chinese investment sectors are focusing on construction of infrastructure such as roads and railroads, dams, ports, and airports. but also in oil and minerals.

Chinese companies have recently increased their activity worldwide. Specifically in Africa, countries like Sudan, Nigeria, Angola, Gabon but also in Tanzania.

HOW DO THE AFRICAN COUNTRIES BENEFIT.

Its is true that African Countries are benefiting from it as u can see in 2006, one of the articles in Economic Weekly of Germany stated "China has contributed to over 5% of African economy growth in 2005, and reduction of its inflation to the lowest level during the past 25 years.

In African history, it was the first time that the capital flowing into Africa as economic investment had outweighed that as development aid(many people think this was a turning point in African history.

In the past decade, the trade volume between China and Africa has increased with an average annual rate of 35%, from 10 billion US dollars in 2000 to over 160 billion US dollars in 2011. China has replaced the United States to become the largest trading partner to Africa in 2009. According to wikipedia. AllAfrica.com.

In addition, Africa has grown rapidly to become China's second largest project contracting market and fourth largest overseas investment destination. So then you can see how this countries are benefiting from it.

HOW DO ORDINARY PEOPLE REACT TO CHINES BUSINESS IN AFRICA?.

·        Cases of human rights abuses have arisen from Chinese-African co-operation. African workers have protested against ill-treatment and poor pay by Chinese companies, as well as the influx of Chinese workers who take away local jobs.
·        Also people are complaining on how Chinese organizations operating in Africa because you can find there are typically two kinds of firms transforming African resources in which the bosses, managers, and technicians are Chinese, the workers are African, and the customers are Europeans, Americans, and Japanese; and firms selling to African markets in which the bosses and managers are Chinese, the sellers are Chinese, and the customers are African.

·        And there then fake product for Africa from china like, Mobile phones, Tv,  Radio, those are electronic product from China which Africans are complaining that they don’t stay longer than what they use to buy from other countries like German, Finland, England etc.
·        There is also fear among Africans that  China also sells arms in order to cement relationships with some African leaders. Sudan, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Burundi, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe are examples of countries which receive arms in shipments sometimes labeled as agricultural equipment.
